This is (no surprise) the most cogent piece on cancel culture I've read. Kudos.

Thank you also for the made-my-day photo and mini-bio of the gorgeous and blissful Tab Hunter, who shows by example that thinking is overrated.

Tab Hunter is the handsomest critter ever. (Well, except for my own doggo, Bingo.) That's such a great photo of him!

This made me laugh re: Ben Affleck:

"Affleck would take just about any opportunity for some positive coverage that doesn’t make him look like some sort of laboratory-grown, pharmaceutical grade Divorced Dude."

Hehe!

i wonder how many people remember the genesis of "political correctness" 30 and more years ago (i sure do -- way back in the 80s). Your analysis is spot on. When i read about Baffert initially, it was so confusing. Wait, your horse DID test positive for drugs. Talk about doublespeak turned inside out.

Excellent dissection of the issue.

i love being a Twirler.

Cancel culture. It's a real thing, and the way it's been weaponized is also real. Usually by the worst people or whatever flunkies they hire to run distraction for them. However, when it's used correctly as "consequences" it delivers a sound message about what is no longer acceptable. And no amount of crying on cable news channels will change that. Great piece, gentleman!

Helllooooo Mr. Tab Hunter! Such a handsome boy. We also live with a burly ginger boy (who does know how to meow and is a bit dramatic) who is the sunniest, happiest cat I've ever seen. Gingers really are special. I love Tab's little pink tongue poking out, in a truly proper "blep" manner. Well done, Sir!

Bennifer 2.0 and the cicadas, both back after 17 years.

And Tab Hunter is such a beautiful boy. I have such a soft spot for ginger kitties!

Thanks for connecting Bennifer and the cicadas!

This was a terrific piece! I'm thinking about having my students (high school) read it and ask them what they think about it. As far as the subject goes, it seems to be a case of white (male) elites taking a phrase that originated with young people of color and weaponizing it agains them, similarly to what happened with "woke."

Also, Tab Hunter is gorgeous! I'd give him big hugs if I could!

Cancel culture, like political correctness just seems like an excuse for ignoring the civil standards of society or, in other words, being unkind and selfish. Both Aunt Jemima and Dr. Seuss were like “Gone with the Wind” - a product of their times. By today’s civil standards they are racist, yet people want the excuse to be racist or sensitive without being called out on it. I think it’s legitimately correct to cancel or least point out racist tropes. Like political correctness, we do it to be a kinder, more equal society. That can’t be a bad thing, right?

Ah, Baffert. I can't with him. There's a reason that some people are totally against this "sport."

As for Bennifer, I didn't care then, I could care less now. One or both of them has to have a new project coming up or something. But hey, I'm a cynic.

Tab Hunter is very cute. It's okay that's he's not the brightest bulb in the pack he makes up for it in other ways. I love that he likes to hug

"but you can’t recapture your youth by living vicariously through the super-famous and you’re going to die just like everyone else". Thank you for that.

I admit to being confused by the whole concept of "cancel culture," since it's used incorrectly so often. I find it hard to take seriously anymore because it's become the excuse du jour by anyone caught red-handed and expected to suffer the consequences. Simplistic, yes. But that's the fault of all those who use it for misdirection.

I missed the demise of J-Lo's last relationship, though I vaguely recall a wedding that kept getting put off. Can't say that I care all that much.

Tab is adorable! I love big cats.

Tab Hunter -- what a fabulous name for an obviously beautiful boy. I loved all the newsletter words too but the cat picture is the best!

How did I miss Bennifer 2.0? What would I do without you to keep me marginally aware of pop culture??

Tab Hunter is so sweet. I love orange kitties.

Yep cancel/consequences & page clicks are all merged and meshed together these day. I’m trying to learn when to just scroll by and use the block and mute features liberally.

Tab Hunter is seriously cute! He reminds me of my (now deceased) colony cat Gingercat.

I’m trying to ignore the messiness that is Bennifer 2.0. It reeks of desperation on both their parts. But also? They aren’t paying my bills so, whatever. 🤷🏾‍♀️
